Lysakerfjorden Brettseilerklubb, Oslo, Norway (LBK) is looking for talented windsurfing instructor / coach with outstanding organizational skills

LBK, Norway’s largest and oldest windsurfing club, was founded in 1981 and has today around 550 members.  Our current head coach has decided for next year to focus on talent development at national and international level, and LBK is therefore looking for a new head instructor / coach for the 2019 season, in a 60-75% position.

The position requires excellent windsurfing skills at least at national level.  Solid track record of instruction / coaching, documentable team management experience, and outstanding organizational skills are required.  University-level education in sports would be considered an advantage, but is not required.  If you do not have a boat license, you will be expected to get one (and will be reimbursed for costs).  The position includes instruction of minors, and all sports instructors in Norway with such responsibilities are by law required to submit a clean police record (‘clean’ for the purpose of the position, see https://www.idrettsforbundet.no/klubbguiden/politiattest/, sorry about Norwegian).  This is an instructor / coaching position, but the candidate will be expected to contribute to maintenance of the club’s gear and boats, pre-season, in-season and post-season.

About LBK: LBK was founded in 1981 is has today around 550 members.  It is a membership-based club, to a large extent based on voluntary work.  The coach team will in 2019 consist of a head coach (this position), a race / senior coach (current head coach), and 7-9 junior coaches.  It has newly built NOK 12.5m club facilities, including board / rig storage, located in attractive surroundings at Snarøya (https://www.google.no/maps/place/Rolfstangen/@59.8924676,10.6353879,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x89bfe1e8b41f9ad1!8m2!3d59.8924676!4d10.6353879), a 20-minute bike ride outside Oslo.  LBK offers full-season courses at beginner level and intermediate level, plus summer schools, weekend short courses, PT lessons, and commercial events.  Wind conditions in the area are not optimal for windsurfing, though pretty good for Inner Oslo Fjord.  LBK has an excellent financial position, a well-functioning management and board, and budget for travel.

Compensation arrangements will be competitive, and an apartment may be arranged for a shorter time period.  Compensation will include a fixed component (= guaranteed income) plus a variable component based on # hours worked.  Depending on the organization of the coach team, the agreed length of the season, and percentage position in-season, a successful candidate will earn in the order of NOK 300 000-350 000 per year (incl. Norwegian ‘vacation money’). It is expected that our new head instructor / coach will combine work for LBK during season with other professional activities in the winter (e.g., personal trainer, skiing instructor, teaching or studying).  It is expected that the candidate will start working for LBK around March 1, 2019 (to be discussed).  The candidate will report to LBK’s General Manager, but must be able to work effectively across functions and levels.

A successful candidate should be able to build a good personal life in one of Europe’s most attractive capitals.  Oslo was in 2017 awarded he European Commission’s Green Capital Award, see http://ec.europa.eu/environment/europeangreencapital/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/EGCA-2019_EGL_2018_Winners_Announcement_02062017.pdf.
